SIGHTSEEING IN TRIPOLI

Visit (242 times)

Sightseeing in Tripoli is one of the favored tourist activities. Tripoli is the 2nd largest city in Lebanon, located north of Batroun and Cape Lithoprosopon. The charming city of Tripoli features abundant tourist attractions and travelers can easily go for Sightseeing in Tripoli.

The tourists looking for Sightseeing in Tripoli can go to the following destinations:

Burj Es-Sabaa (Lion Tower):

The only monument of real interest in Al-Mina, the Lion Tower, is one of the popular attractions in the city. Built by Mamluk sultan Qaitbey to guard the coastline against the attack from the Ottomans and named after the bas-relief lions that were used to line the facade, the tower dates from the end of the 15th century, the miniature fortress is located at the eastern end of the harbor. With an outstanding black-and-white striped portico, Burj Es-Sabaa is a fine specimen of Mamluk military architecture.

Citadel of Raymond de Saint-Gilles:

Towering above Tripoli, the Crusader fortress was originally built in AD 1103-4. It was destroyed by fire in AD 1297 and partly reconstructed by a Mamluk emir (chieftain). The most arresting feature of the citadel is the daunting entrance, with its moat and 3 gateways (one Ottoman, one Mamluk, one Crusader).

The Great Mosque:

Built on the ruins of a 12th century Crusader cathedral, St. Mary of the Tower, the construction of The Great Mosque was started in 1294 and was completed 21 years later. At the entrance, there is a large courtyard, surrounded by porticos on 3 sides and a vaulted prayer hall on the 4th. It was destroyed by the Mamluks. The northern entrance and the minaret, a distinctive Lombard-style tower are likely remnants of the original architecture.
Apart from those, there are plenty of other attractions in Tripoli. Tripoli Tours have a lot to offer to the travelers.
